Supporting sustainable products, disclosures and investment decisions
The sustainable finance landscape is evolving rapidly. Regulatory developments such as SFDR 2.0, fund naming rules, ESG disclosure requirements and the European Green Bond framework are reshaping how financial products are designed, marketed and reported. At the same time, investors, distributors and regulators increasingly expect sustainability-related claims and data to be transparent, consistent and supported by evidence.
From Luxembourg, Europe's leading fund centre, PwC helps asset managers, banks and insurers navigate this changing environment. Combining sustainable finance advisory, ESG assurance, regulatory expertise and technology capabilities, we support clients across the product lifecycle, from sustainable investment strategies and product design to disclosures, reporting, assurance and stakeholder communications.
We help organisations build trust, meet evolving expectations and turn sustainable finance requirements into better investment and business decisions.
SFDR 2.0 replaces disclosure with categorisation. The Commission's proposal creates three core categories (sustainable, transition and ESG basics), each with a 70% minimum threshold and mandatory exclusions. Funds outside them would lose the right to refer to sustainability in their names and marketing.
We assess every fund against the proposed criteria, set out the options for each one and prepare the decisions for your board, while keeping today's disclosures robust.
The outcome is a fund range strategy your board can approve with confidence, ready to adapt as the final text is agreed.
A sustainability strategy for a UCITS equity fund looks nothing like one for a private debt, infrastructure or real estate fund, or a fund of funds. Each relies on different data, from ESG data providers, investee companies or underlying managers.
We design strategies for each asset class, carry out due diligence on your ESG data providers and data points, and build the data model that links investment decisions to disclosures and reporting.
The outcome is a product range whose sustainability commitments are investable, measurable and evidenced.
Since 27 September 2026, generic environmental claims to consumers are banned unless backed by recognised excellent environmental performance, and product claims of climate neutrality based on offsetting are prohibited. Fund names, factsheets, websites and social media are all in scope when they reach consumers.
We map where your exposure sits, review your claims at scale, build the evidence behind the claims you keep and put approval processes in place.
The outcome is sustainability communication you can stand behind, with every decision documented.
Pre-contractual and website disclosures are the first documents investors, distributors and supervisors read. They must match the investment process, each other, the fund name, the KID, factsheets and the European ESG Template. Under SFDR 2.0, all of them will need to be rewritten in a shorter, category-based format.
We review and draft SFDR annexes and website disclosures, test consistency across documents and data, and plan the rewrite of your range for SFDR 2.0.
The outcome is disclosures you can defend in front of investors and the supervisor.
Every year brings SFDR periodic reports for each Article 8 and 9 fund, the PAI statement, Taxonomy figures and the European ESG Template for distributors. Investors add their own requests: EDCI metrics, the BAI ESG Template, PRI and GRESB submissions, impact reports and questionnaires.
We help you produce mandatory and voluntary reporting efficiently, and build the data, processes and controls behind both. Where it helps, we run EET production and PAI calculation for you.
The outcome is reporting that is complete, consistent and on time.
Boards, investors and distribution partners increasingly ask for independent comfort on the sustainability information they rely on.
Our assurance teams provide independent assurance over SFDR periodic disclosures, PAI indicators, Taxonomy figures and European ESG Template data, and over the processes and controls that produce them, under recognised assurance standards and within applicable independence rules. We scope each engagement to what matters most to your stakeholders, from a single PAI statement to the full reporting cycle.
The outcome is sustainability information your stakeholders can rely on.
As investor scrutiny, market standards, and regulatory expectations continue to increase, issuers face growing challenges in demonstrating the credibility and impact of their green bond programmes. From framework development and alignment with the ICMA Green Bond Principles or the EU Green Bond Standard, to allocation and impact reporting and external reviews, organizations need robust processes and transparent disclosures to maintain market confidence and access sustainable finance opportunities. Our specialists help issuers navigate these complexities throughout the entire green bond lifecycle.
As sustainable finance matures and becomes more deeply embedded in investment strategies and capital allocation, public and private investors face growing pressure to translate sustainability objectives into credible, investable opportunities and deploy capital through the right financing structures.
We support public and private sector clients in designing and deploying equity and debt solutions, including GSS+ bonds, loans, guarantees and securitisation, and in connecting investors with sustainable investment opportunities across the EU and internationally.
Our multidisciplinary expertise spans a broad range of sustainability themes, from climate mitigation and adaptation to nature and social impacts, helping clients align financing solutions with investor priorities and sustainability objectives.
Early alignment will safeguard credibility, reduce compliance risk and support competitive product positioning in an environment moving toward clearer standards.
