PwC webinar series for asset managers in Switzerland

Using Luxembourg AIFs - a practical guide to operating models and distribution

About the webinar

PwC Switzerland is launching a new series of webinars for Swiss asset managers. The series will explore practical issues linked to legislation, regulatory standards and tax.

The first webinar will be co-hosted by PwC Luxembourg and will focus on how asset managers in Switzerland can make use of AIFs based in Luxembourg. In this particular webinar, rather than going into the different vehicles available in Luxembourg, we will be looking at which operating models Swiss asset managers might consider and how to market fund units within Switzerland. Presentations by experts from PwC Switzerland and PwC Luxembourg will look at recent regulatory developments in the EU, Luxembourg and Switzerland. Participants will be able to ask questions during the webinar.

Agenda

AIFMD – where are we now and where next?

Begga Sigurdardottir (Partner, PwC Switzerland) and Olivier Carré (Partner, PwC Luxembourg) will give participants an introduction to EU Directive 2011/61 on alternative investment fund managers (AIFMD) and recent changes to the rules. The presenters will also discuss the ESMA recommendations and what changes we can expect to see.

Operating models for asset managers marketing AIFs in Switzerland

Philippe Belche (Partner, PwC Luxembourg) and Jean-Claude Spillmann (Director, PwC Switzerland) highlight the operating models available to asset managers based in Switzerland when marketing Luxembourg AIFs – and potential hazards. The presentation will cover the regulatory requirements that apply to tasks delegated to Swiss asset managers by a Luxembourg-based AIFM.

What structures are used to distribute AIFs in other European countries?

Ebru Yalcin (Director, PwC Luxembourg) and Jean-Claude Spillmann (Director, PwC Switzerland) highlight the requirements that Swiss asset managers have to meet in order to distribute AIF units in other European countries. Where do Luxembourg AIFMs fit in? How does the concept of tied agent work and what does it involve? Are there other ways for asset managers based in Switzerland to market their products in Europe while complying with the requirements? Our experts will explore these and other questions by looking at the practical implications of current regulatory developments.

What products can be distributed?

Begga Sigurdardottir (Partner, PwC Switzerland) and Kerstin Boernecke (Director, PwC Luxembourg) look at which products can actually be marketed given the regulatory requirements and taking into account different categories of investor.
