Prof. Dr. Rolf Bracke

Director of the Fraunhofer Research Institution for Energy Infrastructures and Geotechnologies (IEG)

Prof. Dr. Rolf Bracke

Prof. Rolf Bracke is institute director of Fraunhofer IEG since December 2019. Previously, he built up the International Geothermal Center Bochum (GZB) as a NRW joint research institution of science and industry since 2003 as founding director and chairman of the board. Within Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, Rolf Bracke coordinates research on the dimension of heat for the institutes of the Fraunhofer Energy Alliance and the Cluster of Excellence Integrated Energy Systems. As a full professor at Ruhr University Bochum, he holds the Department of Geothermal Energy Systems at Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Previously, he held the professorship for Geothermal and Environmental Engineering in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Bochum University of Applied Sciences from 2002 to 2020 and was Vice President for Research between 2006 and 2009. He was director of the International Geothermal Association (IGA) between 2013 and 2020 and is a member of the Executive Committee of the European Energy Research Alliance (Geothermal Program). In 2020, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his work on structural change.

Prof. Dr. Mario Ragwitz

Director of the Fraunhofer Research Institution for Energy Infrastructures and Geotechnologies (IEG)

Prof. Dr. Mario Ragwitz

Prof. Mario Ragwitz is Director of the Fraunhofer Research Institution for Energy Infrastructures and Geotechnologies (IEG) since December 2019. Before that, he was Deputy Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI in Karlsruhe.
As scientific director of the Fraunhofer Cluster of Excellence "Integrated Energy Systems" he coordinates the joint research of eight Fraunhofer Institutes in the field of energy system transformation, since 2019. He was also appointed as spokesman of the Fraunhofer Hydrogen Network in April 2020, which coordinates the work of 38 institutes in this field. He holds a chair in “Integrated Energy Infrastructures” at the Brandenburg University of Technology, a position as an honorary professor at the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg and is part-time professor at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies at the European University Institute in Florence.
