Le bonheur est dans le prêt

Buusaa Gonofaa is a micro-loan institution which has been committed since 1999 to set up saving and loan banks in villages of Oromo. It aims at improving the lives of the inhabitants of this region which is often hit by draughts and food crisis. The institution received in 2008 the European Micro-finance Award.

Luxembourg photographer Patrick Galbats spent some time in Ethiopia, and more specifically in Oromo, to meet the beneficiaries of this rural micro-finance powered by Buusaa Gonofa. With his pictures, he shows how this alternative finance system works for the poorest of the world; he also presents the courage and hard work of the people there to get a better life and unveils some small and bigger successes of the beneficiaries. His portraits are sincere and rough and are the fruits of a fascinating photo travel in Ethiopia.
