Retailisation of non-UCITS funds in Europe

Pan European market players are called to voice their opinion

PricewaterhouseCoopers Luxembourg is calling for input into a pan European survey on the distribution of non-harmonised investment funds to retail investors. It is part of a study commissioned by the European Commission to evaluate the potential and perspectives of non-UCITS funds market in Europe.

Mark Evans, partner at PwC Luxembourg and leader of this highly topical project, explains: “ This is a good opportunity for investment management professionals to share their thoughts on the distribution and regulatory aspects of the non-UCITS market as this study will feed the Commission future policy reflections .”

The aim of the study is threefold: identify the non-UCITS products sold to retail investors, analyse the distribution channels of those products and finally highlight the current drivers and barriers shaping this investment sector as well as the development perspectives.

To achieve this ambitious project, a large market survey will be undertaken based mainly on a questionnaire. Targeted professionals are mainly funds promoters, distributors and intermediaries such as banks, insurers and funds platforms established in Europe. In addition, Regulators, Stock Exchanges and consumer associations from all the main financial centres in Europe will also be consulted.

The online questionnaire called "The retailisation of non-UCITS funds in the European Union" can be completed until March 31 at the latest and is available on www.retailisationofnonucits.com .
