The right stock exchange

Having decided that a public offering is the next step for your company, choosing the 'where' is the next important decisions to make, whether you plan an IPO or a secondary listing. To consider is how different markets would meet your needs.

The demand varies depending upon:

  • Local market strength;
  • Public perception of the IPO;
  • Industry and economic conditions;
  • Market prospects; and
  • Other factors.

When you have in front of you a bull market, the window for new corporate offerings open up, and the new offerings enjoy popularity. Instead, in declining markets, the window tends to close, and IPO activity slows. Is a must to consider the importance of timing and be prepared to adjust. The usual timetable, from the initial meeting of the team to the completion of the offering, ranges from several months to over a year. Active markets accept more offerings, and you want to avoid being the deal that is made one day too late.

Also, most companies have typically three options to list:

  • Domestic exchange;
  • Overseas exchange; or
  • Several exchanges (dual listing).
