Banking and Professionals of the Financial Sector (PFS): Case Study

Human resources services support for a major bank in Luxembourg

The issue

In order to comply with Group and legal requirements applied to the banking sector and to Sarbanes Oxley regulations, the Bank requested PwC to assist them in the formalisation of the role profiles of every position in the organisation.

Conscious of the fundamental importance of role profiles for a number of HR processes (such as performance management, training & development, career development, job evaluation, recruitment & selection), the objective of this project was also to identify the ideal technical and behavioural competencies needed for the successful accomplishment of the tasks related to each role.

Our approach

The main phases of the projects were the following:

  • Identification of the number of roles existing in the Bank;
  • Description of the Mission and Key Responsibilities related to each role;
  • Benchmarking of the roles profiles according to PwC and market best practices;
  • Identification of technical and behavioural competencies and linkage to role profiles;
  • Development of an IT prototype tool integrating the catalogue of competencies.

To achieve this project, PwC has closely collaborated with the HR and the Operation’s department and has facilitated several workshops to help them identifying relevant information for the role profiles.

The outcome

At the end of the project, PwC delivered a harmonized role profile and competence catalogue static site based on html pages (CD ROM).
